New data center opens in Rockford creating 350 new jobs

ROCKFORD (WREX) - A new data center opens in Rockford creating dozens of job opportunities.

The ribbon cutting for Financial Management Systems, a Schaumburg-based data center, was held Wednesday morning. It's located at 4021 Morsay Drive, between Alpine and Fairview.

13 News first told you about FMS coming to Rockford last month. The new office brings 350 new jobs to the area.

"I was looking for a job, trying to find something to bring income. And they are hard to find right now, good jobs, working for good companies," said new FMS employee Cindy.

FMS provides receivables-management services to government agencies and private sector clients in the financial services, higher education and healthcare industries.

The company looked at four different states before picking Rockford.

"Rockford was an easy choice. What we found was the energy of the people. And in the other states, we didn't see the kind of energy that Rockford put out through the Rockford Area Economic Development Council, the mayor's office, and the city," said FMS President/CEO Balaji Rajan.

"One of the things by the way that they were attracted to is our local educators that can help provide a well trained workforce to enable them to get the people that they needed," said Rockford Mayor Larry Morrissey.

FMS started hiring for the Rockford location a few weeks ago. Now it's up to more than 30 employees. "It's a relief to have a job in a company where I feel there's a secure future," said Cindy.

Mayor Morrissey says this is a great start, but the city still has a long way to go to attract even more jobs to the Rockford area.
